Published price guides put home cleaning at about £13 to £28 an hour in England, with the South East at the top end. Here is what a fair price looks like and how to book a cleaner in Reading.
What cleaners typically charge
UK price guides checked in October 2026 give a wide range, and where you live matters.
- Most of the UK: about £13 to £25 an hour.
- London and the South East: about £20 to £28 an hour. Reading is in the South East, so expect prices nearer this range than the North or Midlands.
- Marketplace listings in Reading show cleaners advertising anywhere from about £10 to £25 an hour.
Typical price for a regular clean by home size
These are weekly visits from a published UK guide. Time and price grow with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms.
- Studio or 1 bed: about 2 to 2.5 hours, roughly £30 to £55 (£45 to £75 in London and the South East)
- 2 bed, 1 bath: about 2.5 to 3 hours, roughly £40 to £70 (£55 to £90)
- 3 bed, 2 bath: about 3 to 3.5 hours, roughly £50 to £85 (£70 to £110)
- 4 bed, 2 bath: about 3.5 to 4.5 hours, roughly £65 to £110 (£90 to £140)
One-off and deep cleans cost more than a regular visit because they take longer and cover more.
What a fair price looks like
A very low price can mean the cleaner is not being paid properly. The National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour from April 2026. On Pluggerzz, a cleaner who sets a price of about £16.50 an hour takes home at least that after our service fee, so a 2-hour clean works out at around £33 and a 4-hour clean at around £66. Self-employed cleaners are not covered by the minimum wage rules, and they also pay for travel, supplies and tax, so this is a floor and not a typical price.
If you are quoted far below that, it is worth asking how the price works before you book.
What makes the price go up
- Size and condition. More rooms, more clutter, or a home that has not been cleaned for a while takes longer.
- Type of clean. Deep cleans, oven cleaning, inside windows and end of tenancy cleans cost more than a regular tidy.
- Frequency. Weekly and fortnightly visits are usually cheaper per hour than a one-off.
- Supplies and equipment. Some cleaners bring their own products and equipment. Others expect you to provide them. Check which before you compare prices.
How to get a fair deal
- Say how many bedrooms and bathrooms you have and what you want done.
- Ask whether the price includes products, equipment and travel.
- Agree how long the clean should take and what happens if it needs longer.
- Get the price in writing before the first visit.
